The novella Phuyup Yawar Waqaynin tells the story of the life of the author’s grandfather, Don Faustino Camacho Soto, from when he was a little boy up until he was an old man; how he grew from a small boy in the town Kalallusta, got married, and then went to Cochabamba to work; and even though he worked, he didn’t keep his money. The story of him going through this sadness crystalizes across the narrative, and the book reads as an extended memory.

GLADYS CAMACHO RIOS is a Bolivian linguist, writer, and translator born in Anzaldo, Bolivia. She promotes language and culture through her writing and academic work, with the aim of spreading the richly expressive monolingual Quechua of rural speakers to urban bilngual speakers of simplified Quechua.
