Lunana follows Ugyen, a discontented, aspiring singer living in Thimphu who dreams of moving to Australia to become a rock star. He is sent to finish his mandatory teaching service in Lunana, a village of 56 people, 4,800 meters above sea level with no electricity or internet.

Filmed on location in the Himalayas, the film showcases stunning, panoramic mountain scenery, and includes acting performances from many of the residents of the actual village of Lunana.
