In its aims religion does not differ from science. Of course their ways and methods are different, but religion as well as science strives to comprehend the external world and to subjugate it. In accordance with these two ends, religion, like science, may be considered in the aspects of pure (narratives through which reality can be understood) and applied (prayer, sacrifice, incantation, mystery) religion.

The various domains of visible nature are controlled by spirits or beings known as pogi’lpe (owners). There are three main owners: the Owner of the Earth, the Owner of the fresh Waters, and the Owner of the Sea. To these all other owners are subject. Thus every mountain, forest, tundra, every separate place on earth, have their own owners, but they are all subject to the Owner of the Earth, and likewise for the fresh Waters and the Sea. There are rules to interacting with a place dependent on the characteristics of its owner.
