White Moss, also known by its Russian title Belyy yagel, takes place in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia in Western Siberia, where the Nenets people lead a traditional way of life. A young Nenets man, waiting for his beloved from the mainland, is forced into marriage by his mother. It is a story about loyalty, tradition, and the difficulty of choice.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Nenets author Anna Nerkagi, and features primarily Kalmyk, Buryat, and Yakut lead actors, alongside supporting roles played by Nenets from Yamal, all speaking the Tundra Nenets langauge.
