The sacred history of the Andriambahoaka narrative cycle tells of the legendary sovereigns and the divine origins of the laws of the ancestors. Among the best known segments of the text is the Ibonia cycle, which details the semi-divine Ibonia’s miraculous birth, heroic journey, and battles against supernatural forces. Other well known segments include the Books of Tokandahy, Andrianerinerina, and the Vazimba.

While the most traditional narratives are preserved by groups like the Saklava and Masikoro, the tales of the Andriambahoaka and the rites of Fomba Gasy, Malagasy traditional religion, are deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of all people across Madagascar.
