Wawa, a young girl from Yakel on Tanna Island, falls in love with her community leader’s grandson, Dain. When a war between factions escalates, Wawa is unknowingly betrothed as part of a peace deal. The lovers run away, but are pursued by enemies intent on killing them.

The cast of the film are all Ni-Vanuatu locals from the village of Yakel, and the film’s plot is based on events that ocurred there in the 1980s that changed the way the community keeps Kastom (traditional cultural practices) to this day.
